Community Outreach

Interfaith Food Pantry-Provides food for families who qualify through Community Action screening.  BCC contributes all loose change from each Sunday’s worship service to the Pantry, donates to the Pantry food items collected from three special drives during the church year, and staffs the Pantry the first Tuesday morning of each month.

CROP Walk-Promoted through Church World Service to raise money to reduce hunger in the world.  BCC participates in this event as 25 percent of the money raised locally is kept within the community; and in recent years, this amount was split equally between the Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Program (MCEAP) and Valley Interfaith
Child Care Center(VICCC).

SHARE Program - Through the New River Valley Community Action SHARE Program, Blacksburg Christian Church purchases several Food Packages each month and donates them to families in need within our community.

Montgomery County Christmas Store-Enables the needy of the county to have a better Christmas.  The BCC family supports the Christmas Store through donations of clothing and money and through volunteer service.

Women’s Resource Center of the NRV-Aids abused women and children in the New River Valley.  BCC members contribute toiletries, prayer shawls and blankets as well as financial donations to the center.

School Supplies-The BCC congregation donates collected school supplies and money for supplies to help needy school children within one community elementary school.

Free Clinic of the New River Valley, Mental Health Services, Habitat for Humanity, and Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Program (MCEAP) -
As their names suggest, these agencies are a means to provide physical and mental health care, affordable housing, and emergency assistance to those in need of these services. The Blacksburg Christian Church CWF (Christian Women’s Fellowship) contributes financially to these agencies through proceeds from the CWF’s annual rummage sale.

Church World Service-Serves as a universal benevolent organization. Each year the CWF contributes money to provide blankets needed in times of disasters.  At times, church members have assembled sewing, health, and school kits and have donated these to Church World Service for distribution to third world countries.

Craig Springs-Provides a camp/conference grounds for Disciples of Christ churches in Virginia.  BCC members have donated financial support and volunteer labor for the upkeep of the buildings and grounds.

Blacksburg Christian Church Building-Serves as a physical setting for groups such
as Ecumenical Bible study groups, Scouts, AA, and the La Leche Society because the church family believes such groups as these serve important functions in the community.
